    Basically, this is a documentary about small business people who cannot compete with Wal-Mart’s lower prices. They’re angry that Americans prefer to pay less, rather than more, for their goods. For this tragic situation, they blame Wal-Mart anc claim that it is a monopoly. They disregard the numerous other competing retail stores that exist around the U.S. and world. And they disregard the fact that the antitrust laws were designed to protect consumers, not small businesses. The irony is that they would use the antitrust laws to “break-up” Wal-Mart and force consumers to shop at higher-price stores like theirs.

    To top it all off, there’s a sort of xenophobic, protectionist theme undergirding the documentary. But, don’t take my word for it, judge for yourself whether you think this is documentary is a piece of crap or not.

    @BEN
    Perhaps you should have watched more than the first 20 minutes of the documentary before making your snide comment.
    This documentary also shows how Wal-Mart deliberately underpaid or refused to pay workers already working on subsistence wages. It shows how Wal-Mart forced its employees to go to the State for aid because it wasn’t willing to pick up the cost of medical care despite making record profits every year.
    It also shows how Wal-Mart benefits from massive State investment to subsidise the building of its stores – investment which the smaller businesses it destroys are not entitled to.
    Further revelations include the racism and sexism of its management structure.
    The point is, it would be easy for any business to lower its prices if it refused to pay its workers and relied on state handouts to build its stores. That is how Wal-Mart does business and that is how smaller, more ethical companies, have been forced out of business.
    It’s not difficult to understand this documentary. Perhaps you should try a bit harder.

    No one forces people to work at Wal-Mart. If you don’t like Wal-Mart’s pay and benefits don’t work there and don’t shop there.The government shouldn’t give any business special privileges: not Wal-Mart, not small businesses, no one.
    People choose to shop at Wal-Mart despite the mediocre service. If people wanted better service then they should be willing to pay for it but they don’t.
    I don’t actually have a problem with Wal-Mart employees getting social benefits as long as other businesses can also use the same tactic to save money. Its a lot more cost effective as a society to give welfare payments to people who work than to have all those people unemployed and unproductive.
